Moroccan Hash

Morocco's Ketama region produces an estimated 40,000 tonnes of cannabis resin annually, making it the world's largest hash producer. The Moroccan dry-sift process produces consistent, shelf-stable hash that travels well, while the balanced effect profile (between sedating Afghan and lighter European varieties) made Moroccan hash the dominant hash product in European cannabis markets from the 1960s onward. Its accessibility, consistency, and pleasant balanced effects established it as the global hash standard.

Moroccan hash ranges from the finest first-pass extraction (Primero, Caramello) through standard commercial grades. The quality indicators include: colour (lighter golden = less oxidised = fresher/better); texture (smooth and pliable when warm = better pressing and resin quality); aroma (more complex and sweet-floral = higher quality); and combustion (burns cleanly without excessive plant matter = better extraction). Standard Moroccan Hash represents good middle-tier quality accessible for regular consumption.

Moroccan Hash's dry, crumbly texture makes it particularly easy to crumble into joint or blunt rolling mixes — the dominant European consumption method. It can also be smoked in a pipe or chillum, or vaporised. The drier texture means it burns more cleanly in joints than stickier Afghan hash. At moderate temperatures, Moroccan Hash's sweet-spicy-floral character is well-expressed.
